You may have heard of our Opus One Concert Series where MSO musicians collaborate with an artist of a different genre of music to produce a concert in a non-traditional venue.  The series is intended to attract new audiences while maintaining a “laid back” concert atmosphere.

From this concert series stemmed off the Opus One Connections community program. Opus One Connections also aims to engage new audiences in by bringing our music out into the community and making it more easily accessible. The 2011 – 2012 Opus One Connections series has a Latin flavor to it, feeding off of the upcoming Opus One Concert Series performance with Marcela Pinilla on March 1 & 2. Our three Opus One Connections event days combines three elements; Music, Education, and an activity for the audience.

I am very excited about bringing this opportunity to Memphis. Program dates are Jan. 29th, Feb. 19th and Feb. 26th at 3:00pm at the courtyard beside the carrousel at the Hickory Ridge Mall. The Jan. 29th program features Marcela Pinilla and an MSO string ensemble, Feb. 19th hosts 2 different MSO ensemble groups and an opportunity for the audience to create music with the MSO, and Feb. 26th gives way for the MSO Big Band to perform modern repertoire along with dance lesson/demonstrations by Rumba Room Dance instructors.

It’s fun for the whole family. You don’t have to know Spanish to enjoy these programs; you just have to be open to having a good time!!
